Write Place, Write Time

If you look at anything long enough, say just that wall in front of you -- it will come out of that wall.

Ten things about my office:

  1. I cannot stand up in my office, which is okay because I write sitting down.
  2. It looks messier in this picture than it really is.
  3. Yes, that is The Thing right above my workspace. To his left are Buddha and a rubber salamander. To his right are Jesus (Buddy Jesus from Dogma) and a pirate duck.
  4. There is a fluffy stuffed sperm in my office. He is right above Jesus’ head in this picture.
  5. One of my favorite things that you can’t see here is my full mouth mold, hinged, which holds my computer wires.
  6. That is a bass guitar. It’s green. I rock that sometimes.
  7. I just added the sheepskin under my desk. Took me three years to think of it and the sheepskin was in the attic the whole time. It’s very cold in my office in winter. Very cold.
  8. The stack of books to the right of my computer are always related to the book I’m working on. In this picture, that stack is a mix of books on philosophy, airplanes, anti-gay violence and birdhouses.
  9. I have a pagoda “I’m watching you” mouse pad. I got it here
  10. My favorite thing in my office is me, writing. Which I’m about to do right now.

A.S. King is the author of the Michael L. Printz Honor Book PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ, and THE DUST OF 100 DOGS. Her next YA novel, EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS, is due in Fall 2011. Until then, she’s working on ASK THE PASSENGERS, a novel about acceptance, small town gossip and airplanes. She likes corn on the cob and swimming. But not at the same time.
